Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’ is a striking, upright succulent known for its deep reddish-green stems and beautiful red to burgundy leaves. New growth often displays brighter red colouring, making it an attractive architectural plant for containers and sunny gardens. It is commonly called the Red African Milk Tree.

☀️ Light

• Prefers plenty of bright light.

• Grows well in full sun to partial shade.

• A few hours of gentle morning sunlight helps maintain its rich red colouring.

• Acclimatise gradually when moving a plant from shade into stronger sunlight to prevent sunburn.

💧 Watering

• Water thoroughly during the active growing season, then allow the soil to dry out before watering again.

• Reduce watering during cooler months.

• Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet, as this can cause root rot.

🪴 Soil

• Requires a well-draining, gritty growing medium.

• A cactus and succulent mix amended with pumice, perlite or coarse grit works well.

  • Mature plants may occasionally produce small, pale green flowers.

  • Flowering is uncommon when grown in containers or indoors.
    Always use a pot with drainage holes.
