Euphorbia stapelioides

Description
Euphorbia stapelioides is a fascinating succulent known for its unusual, cactus-like appearance. It forms upright, cylindrical stems that are green to grey-green and marked with dark brown to purplish, irregular bands that resemble snake or reptile skin. The stems grow in clusters from the base, creating a striking architectural clump. Small, short-lived leaves may appear on young growth but quickly fall off.

The plant produces tiny yellow cyathia (flowers typical of Euphorbias) near the tips of the stems. While the flowers are not showy, the plant itself is highly decorative and prized by collectors for its unique pattern and texture.

Growing Conditions

Light:
Bright light to full sun. It grows best with plenty of light, which helps maintain the strong stem pattern and compact growth.

Water:
Water moderately during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter.

Soil:
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Temperature:
Prefers warm temperatures and should be protected from frost. Ideal growing temperatures are between 18–30 °C.

Humidity:
Low humidity is best. Ensure good airflow around the plant.

Feeding:
Feed lightly with a diluted succulent fertilizer during the growing season.

Propagation:
Usually propagated from stem cuttings. Allow the cut surface to dry and callus for several days before planting in dry soil.

⚠️ Note: Like most Euphorbias, the plant produces a milky latex sap that can irritate skin and eyes, so handle with care.

Plants on offer: 8-12cm rooted. Shipped without pot or soil.
