Euphorbia schubei
R80,00
Euphorbia schubei, formerly known as Monadenium schubei, is a robust, shrubby succulent that offers a striking visual presence in any garden. It is a resilient succulent, ideal for adding height and texture to South African gardens.
Key Features:
- Imposing Structure: Euphorbia schubei features stout, dark bluish-green stems that can grow erect or decumbent, reaching up to 1.25 metres in length. These stems create a bold architectural element in the garden.
- Prominent Tubercles: The stems are adorned with pronounced tubercles, each topped with a small cluster of spines. These spiny crowns add texture and a touch of ruggedness to the plant’s overall appearance.
- Native habitat: This plant is native to the rocky landscapes of Tanzania and Kenya, where it thrives in well-draining soils and full sunlight. It is drought-tolerant and well-suited to South African gardens, particularly in rocky or well-draining soils.
Care Requirements:
- Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Adequate light exposure is essential to maintain the plant’s dark bluish-green colouration and encourage healthy growth.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so well-draining soil is crucial.
- Soil: Prefers well-draining, sandy, or rocky soil. A cactus or succulent potting mix is ideal to mimic its natural habitat.
- Temperature: Grows best in temperatures between 15-30°C. Protect from frost, as cold temperatures can damage the stems.
- Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callous before planting in well-draining soil.
Dimensions: Typically reaches up to 1.25 metres in length. Stems can spread out to form a clumping growth habit, covering an area of 50-70cm in diameter.
Plants on offer: 6-10cm rooted. Shipped without pot or soil.
