Euphorbia hamata

R65,00

Euphorbia hamata is a distinctive succulent native to Namibia and the Namaqualand region of South Africa. Known for its low-growing, bushy form and colourful stems, it is a striking addition to any garden.

Key Features:
Thick, Fleshy Stems: Euphorbia hamata has thick, fleshy stems that are initially pale green but turn a striking reddish-purple when exposed to full sun. This colour change adds a dramatic touch to the plant’s appearance.
Flowering: Small green to reddish flowers appear at the growing points, providing subtle colour contrast against the pale green and reddish-purple stems.
Thornless: Unlike many euphorbias, this species is thornless, making it easier to handle and care for.
Native to Namibia and Namaqualand and Hoedjies Bay in the south (Succulent Karoo parts of the Richtersveld and less frequent in the Sandveld).

Care Requirements:

Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. The plant’s vibrant stem colour is most intense when it receives ample sunlight.
Water: Requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
Soil: Prefers well-draining soil. A succulent or cactus mix is ideal for maintaining proper drainage and preventing overwatering.
Temperature: Best suited for temperatures between 15-30°C. Protect from frost and extreme cold conditions.
Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callous over for a few days before planting to avoid rot.
