🌿 Duvalia caespitosa subsp. pubescens Care

Duvalia caespitosa subsp. pubescens is a small stapeliad succulent that forms dense clumps of short, fleshy stems. It is well suited to warm, dry conditions and makes an interesting addition to a succulent collection.

☀️ Light
Grow in bright light or partial to full sun. Morning sun is ideal, with some protection from intense afternoon sun in extremely hot conditions. Good light encourages compact growth and flowering.

💧 Watering
Water thoroughly during active growth, but allow the growing medium to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering during winter or periods of cool weather. Avoid keeping the plant constantly damp.

🪴 Soil
Use a very free-draining succulent mix. Adding pumice, perlite, coarse sand or other gritty material will improve drainage. The roots should never sit in water.

🌡️ Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures and should be protected from frost. During cold, wet weather, keep it somewhere sheltered and allow the soil to remain fairly dry.

🌸 Flowering
The plant produces distinctive stapeliad flowers. Like many Duvalia species, its unusual flowers are adapted for fly pollination.

🌱 Feeding
Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted succulent or cactus fertiliser. There is no need for frequent or heavy feeding.

✂️ Propagation
Propagation is usually done from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callus for several days before placing them in dry, well-draining soil. Keep the cutting relatively dry until roots begin to form.

🌿 Growing Tip
Duvalia caespitosa subsp. pubescens generally appreciates a dry period between waterings. Good airflow, plenty of light and excellent drainage will help prevent rot and encourage healthy clumping.

Plants on offer: ±1-3 stems 3-5cm rooted. Shipped without pot or soil. May or may not currently have flowers/buds.
