Epiphyllum is a striking genus of epiphytic cacti known for its large, showy flowers and flattened, leaf-like stems. Native to Mexico and Central America, with some species found in parts of South America, they thrive in warm, humid forests where it grows on trees or rocks. These cacti absorb moisture and nutrients from the air and surrounding debris, making them well-suited to shaded, tropical environments. Widely cultivated for their spectacular blooms, Epiphyllum species have also become naturalized in regions such as Venezuela, Brazil, the Galapagos Islands, the Caribbean, India, and China.
