🌿 Euphorbia caerulescens Care

Euphorbia caerulescens is a striking, blue-green succulent that forms upright, branching stems with distinct ridges and paired spines. Over time, it can develop into an impressive, architectural clump. Its unusual blue-grey colouring makes it particularly attractive in succulent collections and dry gardens.

☀️ Light
Provide full sun to bright light. Several hours of direct sunlight helps maintain the plant’s compact shape and beautiful blue-green colour. Acclimatise plants gradually when moving them into stronger sunlight.

💧 Watering
Water thoroughly during the warmer growing season, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Reduce watering during winter and cooler periods. Overwatering is one of the main causes of root and stem rot.

🪴 Soil
Use a very well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Adding pumice, perlite or coarse grit will improve drainage. Avoid heavy soils that retain moisture around the roots.

🌡️ Temperature
It prefers warm, dry conditions and should be protected from frost. In colder weather, keep the plant sheltered and reduce watering.

🌱 Feeding
Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage softer growth.

✂️ Propagation
Propagation can be done from stem cuttings. Allow cut surfaces to dry and callus before planting into dry, well-draining soil. Handle carefully as the plant produces irritating milky latex.

⚠️ Important:
Like other Euphorbia species, E. caerulescens produces a milky latex sap that can irritate the skin and eyes. Wear gloves when handling, cutting or propagating the plant and keep it away from children and pets.

The beautiful blue colouring is best maintained with plenty of sunlight and careful watering. When in doubt, allow the soil to dry rather than watering too frequently.
