Schlumbergera is a genus of epiphytic cacti comprising about nine species native to the coastal montane regions of southeastern Brazil. These cacti belong to the tribe Rhipsalideae, which is distinct from most cacti, as they grow on trees and rocks in shaded, humid environments. Schlumbergera species, including the popular Christmas and Thanksgiving cacti, are admired for their vibrant, tubular flowers and unique, segmented stems. Their ability to thrive in moist, forested habitats makes them well-suited for cultivation in similar indoor conditions, where they are prized as decorative houseplants.
